Examination Prize

Norman Dott Medal

The medal is awarded annually by the board of examiners to the candidate who has the most outstanding performance in the FRCS(sn) examination during that year.

Marjorie Newsome Fellowship

Since 2003 the candidate who wins the Norman Dott Medal is also awarded the Marjorie Newsome travelling fellowship.

Marjorie Newsome was a British epileptic who was treated some years ago, at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. Her estate established Mercy Healthcare. The Marjorie Newsome Fellowship has been awarded by Mercy Healthcare to allow a British trainee to visit some of the leading neurosurgical centres in North America.

The fellowship allows the successful candidate to attend:

1. The American Association of Neurological Surgeons Conference

2. The Barrow Neurological Institute, Phoenix for three weeks

3. Up to two other neurosurgical centres for three weeks
